Illustration created for the card game Lendas e Batalhas, from the myth Boitatá.
A long time ago, one night went too far, seeming like there would never be daylight again. It was a very dark night, with no stars, no wind, and no sound of forest animals, it was a great silence.
It was an endless night. The days went by and the rain began, it rained a lot, this rain flooded and many animals ended up dying. A large snake that lived resting on a tree trunk awakened a hungry and began to eat the eyes of dead animals that gleamed floating in the waters.
Some rights that they shone due the light of the last day in which the animals saw the sun. Eyes brighter than the virgin snake, it was all bright as fire and transparent.
They say that Boitatá scares people when they go into the woods at night. But many believe that Boitatá protects the forest against fire.
